FAITH COMMENTARY
"Knowing God Better in 2013 "

Knowing God Better in 2013 begins in 1 John 3:1 (KJV) where John tells that people of the world know God not:

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

It is true; we, The Sons of God, are not known to the people of the world; this makes sense. If people of the world do not know God; they cannot know us.

We are now beginning to see a New Year’s Resolution opportunity present itself here, one that commits us to knowing God better and helping others to do same.

Understanding scripture is a good place to begin; 1 John 3:2 (KJV) tells us that when Christ returns, we being like He enables us to see Him and we knowing God better now help us to see and know Him then:

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

We, The Sons of God, do not know what we will look like when Christ returns but knowing now that we shall be like Him reassures us that we will know Him when He returns. Revelation 21:3 (KJV) addresses this timeframe, a time of us dwelling with God, a time of Him being ours and we His:

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

We Knowing God Better in 2013 is something that God desires and those of us who attempt to know Him better receive help from Him; He is good at meeting us halfway.
As we gain knowing God better, Matthew 1:23 (KJV) shows the virgin birth of Christ and Him receiving His name, Emmanuel, which interpreted means God with us:

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Recognizing knowing God better to be our goal, Jeremiah 24:7 (KJV) shows the Lord giving us an heart to achieve it:

And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

Knowing God Better in 2013 can become a reality for us. Joshua 1:9 (KJV) says that we are to be neither afraid nor dismayed. Showing strength and courage, we remember that whithersoever we goest, Emmanuel goest with us:

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is

with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Knowing God better requires a serious effort on our part and we find ourselves underway when considering Paul’s advice in Philippians 4:6 (KJV): Be careful for nothing:

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Be careful for nothing is God’s way of telling us that when we pray, we are to hold nothing back; praying is all about getting to know God better as well as Him getting to know us better. We are to ask for all our needs to be met as the more we talk to Him about ourselves and our needs, the better He knows us; God answering our prayers is how we get to know Him.

Could you have a better New Year’s Resolution than being committed to knowing God better?

Is 2013 finally the year that you enjoy the closeness that disclosing yourself to Emmanuel brings?

Is there someone with whom you would like to share Knowing God Better with in 2013?
